The Sloe Hare Cottage

Unique country Accommodation

A picturesque country escape just 2.5 hours drive from Sydney in an area known as Mozart in the high country of Central West NSW.

Nestled on the Fish River with lots of picnic spots it’s one of the few places you’ll visit where time really does slow down and the only neighbours are wombats, wallabies and hares

  1. Beautiful cute cottage set in picturesque working farm

had a terrific weekend – a really lovely cottage on a working farm. Beautiful walks, really peaceful and quiet, saw a wombat, saw rabbits. Fish river was great as was the various dams. We will certainly booking this again. Thank you

  2. So close to Sydney but so far away - great secluded cottage on working farm

We had a great weekend in this lovely cottage. The cottage is simple but clean and had really comfy beds. It is right in the middle of a farm with sheep and cattle. We saw the owner shearing sheep and the kids just loved it. It was secluded and great scenery and the area in front of the cottage was great for the kids and we had a BBQ one night while watching the stars. What a terrfic spot and so close to Sydney. We will be coming back for sure.

  3. Real good - highly recommend

Our group stayed at the cottage before New Year. We had a ball. The weather was patchy but who cares. We swam in the river, saw heaps of ducks, walked over to the road to Goulburn, saw roos and 2 wombats and some rabbits in the gum tree area. We had BBQs every night, sat out in the garden and had some cold ones until late, really relaxing and private. Saw the farmer go by occasionally and groups of sheep and cows. Its a real farm. Cottage was great. It was clean when we got there and bedrooms were real nice. They said they were getting the internet on but it was good without it. We thought it was good and highly recommend. Oberon only a short drive away and it has booze and food. Thanks Mr and Mrs Farmer.

  4. Short stay but we loved it

We stayed just 2 nights but wish we could have stayed longer. Super quiet and private. It is a cute cottage in the middle of a sheep and cow farm. Well equiped and lovely lawn and area around the cottage. Had a BBQ and ate outside at night. We walked down to the fish river and truly saw a platypus in a long pond area. Amazing. Saw a wombat at dusk and quite a few rabbits. We will definitely be coming back. Had a super time.

  5. Where has this gem been hiding?

What a great weekend. There were 4 of us as two couples. Never been around this area before but had a ball. Had planned all sorts of excursions but ended up only leaving the cottage once to get groceries and wine in Oberon. A really nice cottage that was well equipped and clean. The cottage is in the middle of a farm with sheep and cattle and heaps of wild life. Really secluded and private. We had the sound system booming one night and it was like at an outdoor concert. Great walks down to the Fish River and lots of nice dams with picnic spots only a 15 minute walk away. Good BBQ at the cottage and nice kitchen with great gas stove and oven. You cant believe this is only 2.5 hours from Sydney. This place is a jewel. We are coming back in winter for sure. Highly recommend it.

  6. Wowowoowooo - loved it!!!!

Wowowo – what a place to stay!!! We loved it. Quiet, beautiful, secluded, pretty, green, private. It has it all. Can we buy it please? The walks – wow. The wildlife – wow. We are coming back for a longer stay next time. Thanks Elle

  7. Glorious weekend

Lovely cottage and while the weather was a bit wet, it didnt really matter. The cottage was well equipped, really comfy beds, good kitchen, nice stove and importantly a big fridge. The weber BBQ was used a few times too. Love the seclusion and quietness. Planned to do early morning walks but turned out we did late morning walks as we slept in so much. About a 15 minute trip to Oberon for supplies and good bottle shops and 2 super markets. Beautiful farm with good walks, dams, the river and sheep and cattle. The farmer was about a bit and was a lovely fella. Couldnt recommend this place enough. We are planning a trip back in the winter.

  8. Great Trout Fishing

We are keen trout fishers and had the most wonderful weekend. Stayed in the cottage, had a fire going, great kitchen and lovely stove. The main bed was new and comfy – too comfy. About a 12 minute walk to the river. Great pools and lots of options. Saw a platypus!! Caught two rainbow trout and they were a good size. Beautiful setting on a real working farm with sheep and cattle. Easy to get to and Oberon shops about 15 minutes away. Secluded and beautiful. We have already booked another fishing weekend. Thanks so much Raelene..

  9. Waldara farm wedding venue - just nearby and gorgeous

We had a wedding at Waldara farm. It was only 5 minutes away to the wedding venue. Really convenient. Found Sloe Hare Cottage through a friend. What a tremendous find! We had a group of six of us, and we stayed two nights. Had a wonderful time. First night arrived late and found it easily enough. Beautifully clean and well-equipped. The host, Elle had left some gorgeous chocolates – how generous. Just a beautiful cottage. Well, when the sun came up next morning it was even more outstanding. Lattes on the lawn, bacon on the BBQ – heaven. And, LGBT friendly too!!! Couldn’t of been better – we have already booked a winter weekend: who knows what that will bring. Love love love it girls.

  10. Love the wildlife!!

Mid week cracker!!! Love this place. Never been here before but had a great time. Oberon was a bit slow but the Royal Hotel gave up a couple of big, and we mean big, local gals. Great night of partying at the cottage. Big fridge that was well used. And those beds!! Hubba friggin hubba. Gazza had the weber bbq going for breakfast, lunch and dinner – those gals could eat. This place is a gem. Highly recommend if you want some secluded fun. Had a fire going at night and the owners provided heaps of firewood. Got to go home to get our strength back.

  11. Great cottage and beautiful farm

Our family group 6 of us stayed there in June for 4 days – it was cold but the cottage has a new wood burning fire and plenty of firewood. It was great. Great beds and the place was so warm. Went for mountain bike rides around the farm and down to the river. Terrain for all of us. Like to have a fish but the season is closed until Oct. Really fantastic place. Only short drive to Oberon for supplies and beautiful area. Really secluded and private. Good BBQ. We loved it. The kids loved it. Big difference from Randwick and only a 2.5hr drive.

  12. Fantastico

We got the last weekend before lockdown in mid June 21. Our family and cousins total of 6 of us. Arrived later on Friday evening. Easy to find although a few gates to open and close down the long driveway. Our host Elle had left the lights on and the fire was burning. The place was spotless and warm and inviting. Really lovely cottage. Weather was around 15 next day and we went to Oberon for food and drink. The cottage is so secluded and pretty but shops were a 15 minute drive away. Walked to the Fish River and through the paddock full of sheep. Had a picnic beside a large grassy dam. Had a BBQ at the cottage that night and the kids had a ball. What a wonderful place and weekend. We are definitely coming back. Well equiped cottage and comfy beds. Great place.
