The Butcher’s House c1833
A humble heritage listed cottage built with convict bricks in the mid 1800s. Two fireplaces keep the cottage warm during the cold winters experienced on the Central Highlands. The house has been restored with all modern amenities and carefully and thoughtfully curated with a diverse collection of vintage and antique pieces which speak to the varied history of the cottage. Just 90 minutes from Launceston and 1 hour from Hobart, Bothwell is the perfect location from which to explore.
The Space
Cross the sandstone verandah and enter through the original front door. Step into the cosy living room with combustion stove, pour a whisky and settle into the comfy leather sofa. The master bedroom is to the left with an open fire and antique bed. To the rear is the kitchen and dining room. The bathroom has a restored clawfoot bath for you to luxuriate in. There is plenty of electric heating for the colder months. Through the rear door is a huge paved area and yard with outdoor seating to enjoy the warmer days. The combustion stove and open fireplace in the bedroom can be used if you’re knowledgeable about their use. Wood for the fireplaces is supplied and can be found in the wood shed out the back. Please note that there is no television, dishwasher or microwave. There are no laundry facilities available to guests without prior arrangement. Bothwell has limited fresh food and grocery stores. I advise purchasing fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries before you arrive. I can recommend Hill Street Grocers in Hobart.
